Step 1: buy 24 feet of 2×12 or 2×10 untreated lumber.
Step 2: Cut lumber into two eight feet and two four feet lengths.
Step 3: Locate place in yard or farm where you want your bed.
Step 4: Screw or nail the boards together at the ends to form a rectangle.
Step 5: Fill bed with healthy soil and or compost and begin to garden.
In my experience gardening has been much easier using raised beds for the following reasons.
- It makes it easier to keep the weeds out, especially if you use purchased sifted soil.
- It has been easier to keep the animals like woodchucks out, they just don’t seem to climb into the beds like they did the garden tilled into the sod.
- It has been easier to control and contain the high quality soil from my composting.
