Raised Beds Building Guide

Step 1: buy 24 feet of 2×12 or 2×10 untreated lumber.

Step 2: Cut lumber into two eight feet and two four feet lengths.

Step 3: Locate place in yard or farm where you want your bed.

Step 4: Screw or nail the boards together at the ends to form a rectangle.

Step 5: Fill bed with healthy soil and or compost and begin to garden.

In my experience gardening has been much easier using raised beds for the following reasons.

  1. It makes it easier to keep the weeds out, especially if you use purchased sifted soil.
  2. It has been easier to keep the animals like woodchucks out, they just don’t seem to climb into the beds like they did the garden tilled into the sod.
  3. It has been easier to control and contain the high quality soil from my composting.
